We had planned on leaving Bishop today, after yesterday’s lazy double-zero, but got caught up in a wave of being lazy and relaxed and didn’t actually bother to try and get back on the trail, despite today being Memorial Day, which should have given us ample opportunities to hitchhike out.

Bishop Mule Days Parade

As I predicted, I did not sleep well at all. My “bed” was quite uncomfortable, and the crowd in the common area was somewhat loud until quite late. Dylan, Flowers, and Quoi were in the same boat. And Quoi also had someone wake her up at 5:30 by sitting down on the couch she was sleeping on. Needless to say, we were all a bit tired and grumpy in the morning.

Bullfrog Lake

In the valley, it was much warmer overnight than it was on the mountain the previous night, so getting out of my sleeping bag at 4 am wasn’t terribly hard, even if I was still tired. We missed our intended 5 am start time by about 20 minutes, but still got going before sunrise.

Forester Pass

As I was trying to go to sleep last night, I could hear a deep humming as the wind blew; I assumed it was caused by the wind flowing past the mountains. I was a bit concerned by the wind and the cloud that had been slowly descending on us, but after I woke up briefly around 10, I noticed that I could see stars in two directions, and I decided that we were going to be fine after all.
