After a waffle breakfast at the hostel, I stopped by the general store to pick up a soda to drink at my first break, and continued along the trail.

Although the weather forecast called for rain, by morning, the risk of rain was gone and the forecast was for sunny skies. Perfect for a hike. After a brief rocky section, and with a few exceptions later on, the whole day had great, level terrain, and I was able to move quite quickly.

The rain from last night continued mostly through the night, occasionally pausing (but still remaining foggy). In the morning, thunder was added to the mix, but thankfully, the rain and thunder both stopped before I left the shelter.

The morning started off with a light rain, continuing from last night, getting the day off to a somewhat miserable start. But, as much as I might have wanted to lounge around in the shelter for awhile, I had to get moving; there was family to meet in Pen Mar.

I got a late start this morning, around 9, mostly because I stayed up later than I expected talking with Slider and other hikers. In a first for me on the AT, I saw a raccoon on the trail as I was leaving the campground.
