No thru-hike is complete without a gear list! This is the list of equipment I’m taking with me on my hike of the Tuscarora Trail. This is an evolution of the gear from my Appalachian Trail, Long Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Benton MacKaye Trail thru-hikes.

The Tuscarora Trail has been on my bucket list for a few years, but I wasn’t expecting to hike it this year, and certainly not under these circumstances. But after I had to cancel my Continental Divide Trail thru-hike earlier this year, I knew I would need to find something else to do. And though it’s not the grand capstone to my triple crown that I expected, the Tuscarora Trail will be a third of sorts: my third Appalachian Trail-adjacent thru-hike.

My gear on the Pacific Crest Trail was mostly a gradual evolution from my Appalachian Trail and Long Trail thru-hikes, with some changes to reduce weight and additions for requirements in the desert and the Sierra Nevada.
For the most part, it was successful, in that my gear got me through the whole trail, although some of it did not work out near as well as I expected.
