The Bascom Lodge bunk room had one of the most uncomfortable beds I've ever slept on, and I didn't really sleep well last night. This almost made it easier to get up early, since it meant getting out of an uncomfortable bed. I got up around 5:40, and Papa Monkey, Rainbow, and I were gone about 20 minutes later.

On my way to breakfast this morning, I passed by two hikers on bikes, one of which mistook me for another hiker named Gnome; apparently, Gnome lost his hat and one of the hikers on the bikes had it. (I had initially misunderstood this to be that Gnome had lost his pack, which would be a rather surprising thing for another hiker to carry around.)

I slept in this morning until 7:15, and thanks to the soft pine needle carpet on the ground, slept very well. I felt much better than I did last night. I also just remembered that yesterday was the beginning of my fifth month on the trail. I made good time breaking camp, and left for Dalton at around 8:10.

We had blueberry pancakes this morning (and juice, and hot chocolate). After a short detour back to Jug End to drop someone else off, Jess took me to Tyringham, where I got started at a little after 9. I had a great time Jess Treat's, and would happily recommend her hostel.

For breakfast, Jess made eggs for everyone that was there. I also had juice and hot chocolate (which was pretty awesome, since it was a bit cool this morning). She dropped me off at the trailhead at just after 8, and I got started on a 20.6 mile slackpack to Main Rd in Tyringham.
