I didn’t get to sleep until (very!) late last night — after midnight — so I didn’t set an alarm for this morning. I woke up a bit after 7, the sun already bright in the sky.

I got started today at 6:20, and after some slow hiking through a rocky area near my campsite, made quick progress down the trail towards Etna, the penultimate trail town in California.

I was pretty efficient this morning, and despite sleeping in until almost 5:30, managed to start hiking by 6:15. The day started out nice, with a light breeze blowing, and the morning felt slightly cooler than it had been in recent days.

A deer graced my campsite this morning just before I left. I was surprised at how close it got to me as it wandered around nibbling on the grass.
