It was cool and windy this morning, and also quite damp. The dampness didn’t really make sense until I got out of my tent and found that fog had enveloped my campsite overnight.

With yesterday’s early finish, I was rested enough to get an early start today, hiking away from my campsite at 6:30, my earliest start in awhile.

I had plans for another 20+ mile day today, but alas, my feet did not allow that to happen. The trail, though, did take me alongside another volcano, South Sister.

I woke up to a warm morning with a nice breeze blowing over Charlton Lake. The sun rose from behind the lake, the distant smoke tinting the sun more orange, and it almost looked more like a sunset than a sunrise.

The trains last night weren’t as bad as I feared; the last one I heard was around 9:30, before I went to sleep. If there were any others past that, the campsite was far enough away from the tracks that I didn’t hear them.
