We had a great of doing (almost) nothing at Fontana Village, after yesterday’s strenuous hike.
At breakfast, we met, “Java Man”, who lives in Java, who previously hiked part of the Appalachian Trail; and a father and daughter who were section-hiking the AT, from the Nantahala Outdoor Center to Davenport Gap.
Most of the rest of the day was pretty lazy. After a brief nap, we did laundry, got ice cream, and watched and waited on the porch in front of the laundromat, ice cream shop, and general store as a pair of rain clouds blew through, with thunder, lightning, and about 45 minutes of downpour.
We returned to the Wildwood Grill again for dinner. The food we got was again good, but the service (especially on part of the manager there) was disappointing, especially after our good experience yesterday.
Tomorrow will mark our entrance into the Great Smoky Mountains. We hope to get an early start, since we have a 15 mile day planned with pretty heavy packs.
