Today’s hike in the White Mountain National Forest combines the Imp Trail, a loop trail to the Imp Face viewpoint, and the North Carter Trail to reach the Appalachian Trail atop the Carter-Moriah Ridge, with a bonus mountain summit for good measure.

Today’s hike of the Welch-Dickey Loop Trail in New Hampshire’s White Mountain National Forest was a short but strenuous hike to summit a pair of mountains in the southern part of the White Mountains.

Continuing an unplanned road trip, today’s hike was a 7 mile lollipop loop to the summit Black Mountain, with views of Lake George, located in the Lake George Wild Forest in the eastern reaches of the Adirondack Mountains.

Cascade Mountain

Unexpectedly finding ourselves in New York on an unplanned road trip, my partner and I decided to do what we do best — hike in the mountains. This would be my first significant hike in New York since the Appalachian Trail in 2016. Wanting to go somewhere new to both of us, we set our sights on the Adirondack Mountains, a roughly 160-mile wide circular dome of mountains in northeast New York. Our target: Cascade and Porter Mountains, two of easiest of the Adirondack High Peaks to summit.
