Since no thru-hike is complete without a gear list, this is the list of gear I’m taking with me on the Continental Divide trail. This is largely a minor evolution of my gear from my Appalachian Trail and Pacific Crest Trail thru-hikes. I’ve also written on the details of what gear changed, and why.

When I delayed my planned thru-hike of the Continental Divide Trail last April due to COVID-19, I was cautiously optimistic that, by April of this year, the virus would have been well under control, things would mostly be “back to normal”, and I’d be on trail. That didn’t really happen.

As much as we call a thru-hike a walk in the wilderness, that wilderness requires a surprising amount of civilization to properly function.
And of all the things that I thought might significantly affect a thru-hike, it never occurred to me that I would be impacted by a plague.
