With Casa de Luna only 12.3 trail miles away (and another two miles of roadwalk), I wanted to get going relatively early so I could spend more time relaxing. I was actually successful at that goal, getting up early enough to be hiking shortly after 7.

The first shuttle of the day into Agua Dulce was at 7. In theory, if I was efficient about it, I could have packed everything up before then, gone into town for breakfast, and then hiked out from there no later than 8:30. I might have actually been ready by then, except I saw Hulkspiration while I was packing, and then spent a good half hour talking with him instead of finishing.

My extremely busy zero day, involving two shuttles into to town, three restaurants, a trip to REI, a food resupply, and a trip to a movie theater, started off somewhat relaxed, with a ride into Agua Dulce for breakfast.

I left the campground near the North Fork Ranger Station a little after 7. The morning started off with the trail winding through green mountains, with a patchy ceiling of clouds. Then, the trail dropped nearly 2,000 feet into the valley between mountains, containing the (tiny) Santa Clara River.
