Today’s hike with MAHG took me to Virginia’s Sky Meadows State Park, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and allowed me to re-visit the Appalachian Trail, which crosses through the western portion of the park’s Blue Ridge Backcountry section. As it was when I passed through last June, it was a beautiful day for a hike: clear skies, pleasant temperature, and a light breeze on the ridge.

Today’s hike was another venture into Shenandoah National Park with PATC, this time around Hazel Mountain for the “Len Wheat Bushwhack Series #5” hike. This hike series explores Shenandoah, leaving the trail to explore the ruins of homes abandoned during the creation of the park.

Today’s hike with MAHG ventured to Southern Maryland, near the Chesapeake Bay, for a trip through the north side of the American Chestnut Land Trust. The land trust, founded in 1986 to preserve forest and wetlands in Calvert County, MD, is named after the tree that used to dominate forests in the eastern US. The park covers the area surrounding Parkers Creek, a tributary to the Chesapeake Bay which splits the park into its North and South Sides.

This morning, I was lured to the Oregon Ridge Nature Center in central Baltimore County with the promise of two of my favorite things: hiking and pancakes. Who could turn down such an offer? (Hint: not me!)
