The trains last night weren’t as bad as I feared; the last one I heard was around 9:30, before I went to sleep. If there were any others past that, the campsite was far enough away from the tracks that I didn’t hear them.

It was warmer this morning than previous mornings, which was great. The tree sap dropping on my tent was less great, and it took a bit to try and wipe it off in a productive manner. The mosquitoes continued to be as awful as they were last night.

I slept in today, and didn’t leave camp until almost 8:30. It was cool and windy out, which made it rather compelling to stay in my sleeping bag. Ultimately, though, I had to get up, because the trail wasn’t going to hike itself.

Tired, my plan for the day was for a “short” day, so as to get extra sleep tonight. I didn’t really have much in mind planned for that, aside from wanting to be done hiking before 7 pm. (I was still expecting a 20+ mile day, so it wouldn’t be that short. Just closer to 20 than 30.)

The highlight of the day was Crater Lake, the first time on the Pacific Crest Trail that the trail took me to a place I’d previously been to. I’ve been looking forward to this for quite some time: I last visited Crater Lake on a family vacation many years ago.
