After 20 days of non-stop hiking, it was time to take a break in Cascade Locks. This neatly bookends Oregon, with zeros at the start and end of the state.

Today was my 20th day in a row without a zero, hiking nearly the entirety of Oregon, from Ashland to Cascade Locks, without a break. I felt a bit sluggish getting up this morning, but it took me less than an hour from when I got up to when I started hiking, so I guess I just felt more tired than I actually was.

It was cool and humid this morning, likely because of my proximity to the rushing Muddy Fork. I wasn’t especially keen on getting out of my sleeping bag, but I knew that the further I could make it today, the earlier I would get into town tomorrow, so I got myself moving relatively quickly.

Not particularly in a hurry this morning, I got up after 8 o’clock. Surprisingly stiff, I made my way downstairs to Timberline Lodge‘s dining room, where the breakfast buffet was in progress.

I again didn’t set my alarm last night, though I got up around 6:40 today, and didn’t get started hiking for another hour. This was later than I wanted, but given the goal for today was going to be a “short” 20.7 miles to Timberline Lodge, I had plenty of time.
