Today was my first full day in the High Sierra, and the trail did not disappoint with scenery.

Today began my entrance to the High Sierra in earnest, though I have to admit, I was a bit surprised that there was still cactus along the trail.

Today was a low key day of relaxing and preparation for truly entering the Sierra. I tried to sleep in, being that breakfast didn’t start until 8 am, but that’s kind of hard when you’re sleeping outdoors and the sun shines on everything. It was a bit cool overnight, and there was a fair amount of condensation on my tent, but that’s probably going to be par for the course while I’m in the mountains.

It was cold overnight, though not windy, and humid enough that there was condensation on my tent. Everyone else that camped there also had the same problem, and all four of us were waiting for our tents to dry in the morning sun before packing up and leaving for Kennedy Meadows. And, now that the skies had cleared, snow-covered peaks could be seen to the north.

Although I had planned for a long day today, partially to make up for not going as far yesterday as I wanted, I didn’t manage to wake up any earlier than usual, and only got started hiking around 7:20, which didn’t bode well for the roughly 24 miles I wanted to do.
