Day 14: Zero in Edithburgh
Monday, December 15, 2025 4:12 pm
Location: Edithburgh / Edithburgh Seaside Motel (333.5 km)

Our second zero, in Edithburgh, provided much needed rest as we prepare for the final stretch of trail, which will take us to the terminus in Port Wakefield.

  • We slept in until after 9 am. Our feet and legs very much appreciated this. By late in the day, my feet even forgot that they had been hurting yesterday.
  • We got breakfast at the Edithburgh Newsagency & Deli. It was okay.
  • We took a little walk around town. Edithburgh feels like a weird place. The buildings all generally look like they’re in good repair, but especially with its wide streets, the town feels lifeless. CareFree felt it evoked a sense of melancholy. I thought it just felt empty and almost deserted. We talked with a clerk at the local food store, who said that people with summer residences start showing up after Boxing Day (Dec 26), and vacationers start pouring in after the new year. So this is really almost the calm before the storm.
  • With the east coast of the peninsula having larger towns, our food carries are smaller. Because we got to Edithburgh a day quicker than planned, we have an extra day of food on hand, so our resupply to give us two days of food to Port Vincent, only 50 km away, was relatively tiny.
  • We’re getting up a little late tomorrow so we can get a good breakfast at the Location Cafe, before heading out on a 30 km hike to a caravan park in the next town north, Stansbury.
