Day 6: Zero in Point Turton
Sunday, December 7, 2025 10:00 pm
Location: Point Turton Caravan Park (125.1 km)
A quiet day in Point Turton rested our feet in preparation for the next section of trail to Marion Bay.
- Not in any sort of rush today, we set no alarm, and didn’t get up until almost 8 am.
- The first order of business was, of course, breakfast. The caravan park has a small communal kitchen, clearly sized expecting that most guests won’t ever use it. Accordingly, it was our “base of operation” for most of the day. The only down side was when a car with severe exhaust problems idled for ten minutes, spewing oil-rich smoke towards the kitchen.
- Checkout was at 10 am, and as that time approached, the caravan park gradually cleared out. By then, the park was easily half-empty. Unfortunately, that didn’t include our neighbors, but they had been quiet (and we didn’t even see one of them), so that didn’t matter much.
- At lunchtime, we went to the nearby Tavern on Turton for lunch. I got a Chicken Parmesan, CareFree got a cheeseburger, both of which were fantastic. We went back for a repeat for dinner.
- Below the caravan park, near the Point Turton jetty, was a fish cleaning stand for people who fished from the jetty. Easily a dozen pelicans stood around, waiting to fight over scraps of fish thrown out by the anglers.
- We repacked our food that we picked up from the post office yesterday, five days for the next (112 km) stretch to Marion Bay, though now that we’ve planned it a little more thoroughly, we expect it’ll only take four days.
- A nearby lamppost made a perfectly-sized landing pad for a pelican.
- Sunset filled the sky with pastel colors. We went to sleep a bit later than advised for a 6 am alarm. Tomorrow’s “only” a 28 km day to the Corny Point Caravan Park, which will put us close to the end of the north shore of the Yorke Peninsula.
